The Vice President and current flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party, H.E Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has announced his intentions to actively involve the church in governance considering its vital role in national development.

Addressing a clergy in Accra on Tuesday, June 4, as part of his campaign tour in the Greater Accra Region, the Vice President had stated his aims to fashion a much closer relationship between the church and Government.

He further emphasized some of the active roles of the church in National development while affirming the need to incentivize the church to contribute more to Education.

“The next area of reform I want to do is to bring a much closer partnership between the church and Government in Ghana here. Right now, I believe that we are not making enough use of the church. The church is our foremost development partner, our development partners are not the external ones.”

“We have to encourage the church to do more, so I want a closer partnership, especially in the area of the management of our schools.”

He also added his intentions to provide free tertiary education to persons living with disability as well as provide for them, quotas of employment within the public services, as part of his vision if he wins the 2024 elections.

“I care a lot about persons with disability and I want to provide free tertiary education for persons with disability in this country. They have some of the sharpest minds that we have but physically they are not able, but it’s not inability and sometimes because of their physical disability they get disadvantaged in so many areas and are unable to afford tertiary education. We will give them tertiary education and some quotas for the employment of persons with disability in the public service”
