Fast-rising Afrobeats artist, Varadoh, has revealed that hunger played a major role in his decision to transition from rapping to singing.
The musician, who began his career as a hardcore rapper, eventually chose to focus on his vocal abilities after struggling to make an impact in the rap scene.
Speaking on At the DJ’s Mercy with Chairmolele_mic on Radio Univers on July 10, 2026, Varadoh disclosed how his lack of recognition in the rap scene was the catalyst for his switch to singing.
”Honestly, it got to a point where I was tired of rapping. I used to rap, but nothing happened. I was hungry, so I decided to switch,” he said.
He explained that he first tested his singing ability on his Faith EP, which featured the song “Pan the Dot.” The positive reception to the track gave him the confidence to pursue a career in singing full-time.
”I had to test the waters with ‘Pan the Dot’ to see the reception because I had doubts, but the response was massive,” he added.
Journey into Music
Recounting how his music journey began, Varadoh revealed that his first passion as a teenager was football. However, his father encouraged him to join the church choir, where he gradually developed an interest in music.
According to him, the turning point came after he suffered an injury and received little support from his football academy. The experience pushed him to fully embrace music as a career.
Rebranding Moment
Varadoh revealed how rebranding himself as a singer has had a positive impact on his career. He explained that during his rap days, listeners often judged his songs within a few seconds and gave feedback that he felt was not genuine.
However, after releasing his latest single, “Holy,” he began receiving more authentic reactions from fans, including listeners from outside Ghana.
He noted that the overwhelming response convinced him that singing was the right path.
”After dropping ‘Holy,’ I see people reacting to my songs, even those overseas, and I’m getting genuine responses. Then I say I go continue dey sing,” he said.
The singer further shared that “Holy,” released on June 29, 2026, is a heartfelt tribute to his late father. The song reflects his father’s life, unwavering faith in God, and resilience. He disclosed that the title of the track holds deep emotional significance, as “Holy” was the last word his father uttered before passing away.
He also noted that encouragement from his mother to write a gospel song contributed to the creation of the track.
”Holy is a tribute song to my dad. It talks about his entire life and his undeniable faith in God. ‘Holy’ was the last word he uttered before he died,” he explained.
Varadoh is currently promoting “Holy,” which is available on all major streaming platforms.
