Ghanaian radio and television personality and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of EIB Network Group, Nathan Kwabena Anokye Adisi, popularly known as Bola Ray, has expressed high praise for the late Station Manager of Radio Univers, Dr. Abubakari Sidick Ahmed, affectionately known as Alhaji.
Dr. Ahmed passed away on Monday, February 16, 2026, at the University of Ghana Medical Center (UGMC) after a short illness.
In a post shared on his social media platform, Bola Ray, a Radio Univers alumnus, described the late broadcaster as a towering figure whose influence shaped countless careers within Ghana’s media landscape.
“Today, we mourn the passing of a man whose impact shaped countless journeys in Ghana’s media space. A mentor, a disciplinarian, a builder of talent and a pillar at Radio Univers for over three decades,” he wrote.
He further emphasised that Dr. Ahmed’s legacy extended beyond broadcasting, noting that his greatest impact lies in the many professionals he trained and inspired.
“He wasn’t just a broadcaster; he was a foundation. He didn’t just manage a station; he built people. He didn’t just teach journalism, he lived it,” Bola Ray stated.
Alhaji served Radio Univers for more than three decades, making him the longest-serving staff member in the station’s history. His journey began as a student journalist and progressed through various roles before he was appointed Station Manager of the University of Ghana’s non-commercial, campus-based radio station.
During his tenure, he oversaw the station’s operations and contributed to the training and development of student broadcasters. His work at Radio Univers extended beyond the university, as many of the journalists he mentored have gone on to work in media organisations across Ghana and internationally.
