University of Ghana, Students’ Representative Council (UGSRC) Presidential candidate Emmanuel Owusu Amponsah known as ‘Manuel Life’ has alleged that he was approached by the Electoral Commissioner, Mudasir-Ibn Ibrahim with a proposal to merge with another candidate in the lead-up to filing his nomination for this year’s SRC election.

This account by Emmanuel was contained in his response confirming the authenticity of a leaked tape where a voice suspected to be that of the Electoral Commissioner was heard advocating for a merger between two candidates he believed would be the team to beat in the race to the union building.

“I see that if you two come together, it will be formidable. I was working on it,” the voice said during the three-minute interaction.

The other voice on the call, now confirmed as Manuel Life’s, is then heard expressing concerns about the candidate being suggested, noting issues of subtle hostility towards him.

He is then told: “I have been working on it, and I can see he is ready for it (merging with Manuel Life). It is normal for him to be hesitant about being the vice; it is all about dialogue. It is better you merge with him rather than go with someone we do not know. The ball is in your court; this is all I can do.”

The alleged voice of the EC also refused a request to facilitate a merger with another aspirant [Rockson] saying,

“Those conversations I am not part of. You do not know how I see you, and I am being careful, so if you are not interested, you have already made your decision.”
