The President of the Ghana University Sports Association (GUSA), Shaibu Ibrahim Tanko, is calling for more investment in sports facilities as the University of Cape Coast prepares to host the 28th edition of the GUSA Games.
The launch of the 28th GUSA Games took place at UCC, where the competition’s mascot and logo were unveiled.
In his speech, Tanko praised UCC for its commitment to hosting the event and highlighted the university’s exceptional sporting facilities.
“A special commendation must go to the University of Cape Coast for your unwavering commitment to hosting and the exceptional sporting facilities you provide. This is a testament to your dedication to student sports,” he stated.
Additionally, he encouraged further investment in these facilities to enhance athletic excellence and inspire future generations.
“I encourage further investments in these facilities, enhancing, refining, and updating wherever necessary to meet the highest standards of athletic excellence. Remember, these facilities are more than just grounds for competition; they are breeding grounds for ambitions and natural athletes who can become national icons and champions,” he added.
The last edition was hosted by Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), where the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) emerged as champions, winning 22 gold, 22 silver, and 17 bronze medals.
The 28th GUSA Games will be held from January 5 to 18, 2025, with the theme “Repositioning University Sports for National Development”.
The previous edition was hosted by Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), with the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) emerging as champions.
