The Interior Ministry has declared Friday, December 2, 2022, a statutory holiday to honor the yearly Farmers’ Day celebration.

In a press statement, the sector minister, Ambrose Dery,  urged Ghanaians to observe the day as such across the country.

The general public is hereby reminded that Friday, December 2, 2022, which marks Farmers’ Day, is a Statutory Public holiday and should be observed as such throughout the country,

The 38th National Farmers’ Day Celebration’s theme, “Accelerating Agricultural Development Through Value Addition,” is both instructional and eye-opening in light of the current global issues.

The year’s National Farmers’ Day was launched on Friday, 16th of September, 2022 at the Ministry of Food and Agriculture Conference room.

At the launch, the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto, said the theme was chosen “because the concept of value addition in agriculture, especially fisheries and aquaculture present a very good opportunity for additional revenue generation, job creation, foreign exchange earnings and effective post-harvest management.

“For instance, in 2021 total fish production stood at 628,617.53 mt estimated at GHS11.04 billion, contributing about 1.04% of GDP and 20.99% of Agriculture GDP. I am sure that, if value addition was included, the value would have been more,” he stated.

The celebration would take place in the Eastern Region of Ghana, and it will be highlighted, as usual, with a National Agricultural Fair from Tuesday, November 29, 2022, to Friday, December 2, 2022.

The ministry of agriculture  earlier announced a review of the farmer’s day celebration. The move according to the deputy minister for food and agriculture in charge of crops, Mr. Yaw Frimpong Addo, is prompted by the current national and international economic challenges.
