Ghana’s sports minister Mustapha Ussif has called on Ghanaians to support the government in providing the late Christian Atsu a befitting state burial.
The former black stars winger who lost his life in the devastating earthquake last month will be laid to rest on March 17 at the forecourt of the state house.
During the Twasam family’s visit to the jubilee house, his excellency President Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo promised his unwavering support to the family in ensuring the late black stars stalwart gets a burial that would be aligned with his commitment and dedication to the team during his playing days.
In an engagement with the media, Minister of Youth and sports Mustapha Ussif reiterated government’s commitment to ensure the late black star player gets a befitting burial.
“The funeral itself is going to be a state funeral government is going to take over every cost because of the contribution of Christian Atsu to the development of Ghana football and at the same time the way and manner Christian Atsu passed on is something that is devastating to everyone.
This is the only time we should all come together as a country to give our brother and our son a befitting funeral so we wish the football family and the Atsu family our condolence on behalf of the government and the president of the republic”
In attendance of t he one week observation ceremony was minister of Youth and sports Mustapha Ussif, Ghana football association president Kurt Okraku, Vice president Prosper Harrison Addo, former GFA boss Kwesi Nyantakyi ,NPP flagbearer hopeful Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanteng and Ex-black stars head coach Kwasi Appiah were there to grace the occasion.
Former black star players comprising Sulley Muntari, Kwadwo Asamoah, goal keepers trainer Olele Kingston and a host of other dignitaries were in attendance to extend their condolences.
