The 2023 African Games will be remembered as a pinnacle in African sporting history, distinguished by its top-tier facilities, captivating opening and closing ceremonies, and the exceptional achievements of dedicated athletes who secured numerous medals across a range of disciplines.
The delight among Ghanaians following the African Games hosting will endure, as Ghana secures another opportunity by winning the bid to host the West African Football Union (WAFU) Zone B Under 17 Boys Football Tournament.
Nigeria emerged as champions in the last WAFU U17 Boys Championship held in Ivory Coast, while the Black Starlets of Ghana faced disappointment as they were unable to advance beyond the group stage.
In the upcoming 2024 event, Ghana will serve as the host nation, extending a warm welcome to six other West African countries: Nigeria, Cote d’Ivoire, Burkina Faso, Togo, Benin, and Niger. These nations will compete not only for the prestigious trophy but also for a chance to secure qualification for the U17 African Cup of Nations.
In anticipation of the U17 WAFU tournament, the Ghana Football Association has secured a four-nation U16 football tournament for the Black Starlets. Training in Prampram, the team is set to journey to Russia this April to compete against host Russia, Serbia, Ghana, and Kazakhstan.
The WAFU U17 boys tournament, set to take place in Ghana, is scheduled from May 15th to May 29th, 2024.
