The Ghana Health Service has through its surveillance mechanisms detected two cases of monkey pox virus in the Greater Accra Region.
The latest update comes on the back of staff of the Service undertaking active surveillance in the field to inform containment measures that are being developed by public health experts.
A press release signed by the Acting Director of the Ghana Health Service, Professor Samuel Akoriyea dated, May 15 stated that the two cases have been identified and isolated by the relevant authorities whilst contact tracing protocols have been activated by officials to prevent further spread of the virus across the country.
The Ministry of Health in tandem with the Ghana Health Service is also undertaking enhanced public education campaigns across sections of the general public to get people to notice signs and symptoms of the Monkey pox virus and report same to health authorities for prompt action and policy measures.
The statement also advised the general public to observe good hand hygiene and avoid regular contact with persons with signs such as rash on their skins and report same to the nearest health facility.
