Ghana mourns gospel icon: KODA laid to rest in Accra

The burial service for renowned Ghanaian gospel musician Kofi Owusu Dua Anto, popularly known as KODA, is currently taking place at the KICC Dominion Centre on Spintex Road, Accra.

KODA, a beloved figure in contemporary gospel music, passed away on Sunday, April 24, 2024, at the age of 45. The multi-award-winning artist made significant contributions to Ghana’s gospel scene, and his passing has left a void in the hearts of many.

He leaves behind a widow and three children, who, alongside family, friends, and fans, have gathered to bid him a final farewell. The service stands as a tribute to KODA’s lasting legacy, not just as an artist, but as a producer who shaped the sounds of modern Ghanaian gospel music.

KODA earned widespread recognition for his musical talents through various prestigious awards. In 2015, he reached a career milestone by winning ‘Record of the Year’ at the Ghana Music Awards for his hit song “Nkwaa Abodoo.” A year earlier, in 2014, his production expertise was celebrated when he secured the ‘Producer of the Year’ title at the Africa Gospel Music Awards for his work on his own projects.

His influence in Christian music was further solidified with a nomination in the ‘Song with a Cause’ category at the Christian Community Music Awards, reflecting the impactful message of his songs.

Univers extends its heartfelt condolences to the family, recognizing the profound impact KODA had on his fans and the music industry. His legacy will continue to inspire future generations of gospel musicians.
