According to reports gathered by Univers Sports, the Ghana Football Association(GFA) has made contact with Amir Abdou, the current head coach of Mauritania, regarding the possibility of him filling the void as the next coach for the Black Stars of Ghana.
The Ghana Football Association announced the departure of Head Coach Chris Hughton following the Black Stars’ inability to progress from Group B in the 2023 African Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, where they garnered only 2 points from three matches.
The Ghana Football Association initiated a search for a new coach for the Black Stars, assembling a five-member committee with a three-week deadline. Over 66 coaches, spanning both domestic and international backgrounds, have submitted applications for consideration. Among them is former Bibiani Goldstars Head Coach Michael Osei, highlighting the depth of interest in the position.
The Ghana Football Association has formally extended an offer to 51-year-old Amir Abdou to lead the Black Stars. Abdou, whose current contract with the Mauritania National Team is nearing its end, notably steered Mauritania to their most successful Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) campaign, advancing to the Round of 16 following a victory over Algeria at the ongoing Africa Cup Of Nations.
The Ghana Football Association has proposed a substantial monthly salary of $45,000 to the former Comoros tactician. This offer surpasses the proposed $35,000 renewal offer from the Mauritanian Football Federation for a three-year contract extension.
Discussions are ongoing as numerous coaches continue to submit their resumes, aspiring to secure the coaching position for the Black Stars.
