The semi-finals of the University of Ghana Corporate Football League lived up to expectations on Friday, with two intense, closely contested matches producing narrow wins for the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) and Union Ghana.
Both sides will now battle for the championship title in what promises to be a thrilling grand finale.
The first semi-final saw GCAA defeat the Ghana Armed Forces Officers Sports Club 1–0 in a game defined by high energy and tactical discipline. GCAA’s approach was simple but effective — press high, close down spaces quickly, and disrupt their opponents’ rhythm.
The Armed Forces, known for their strength and structure, were never allowed to settle into the game. GCAA’s relentless pressing forced turnovers and limited the army side’s ability to build play.
The solitary goal came as a reward for their control and pressure — and it was enough to send them into the final for the first time.
In the second semi-final, Union Ghana returned to winning ways, overcoming Group B leaders, the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), with a 1–0 victory. Union, who had suffered a setback in their final group game against the Armed Forces, responded with grit and maturity.
A second-half goal from Emmanuel Arthur, Union’s prolific striker, gave them the edge.
Supported by the dangerous runs and crosses of Newton Tackie down the wing, Union’s attack always looked threatening, while their defense stayed compact and focused to keep NPA at bay.
With the semi-finals concluded, the final fixtures are now set:
Union Ghana will lock horns with the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority for the ultimate crown, while the Ghana Armed Forces Officers Sports Club will battle the National Petroleum Authority for third place.
Both fixtures are scheduled for 25th July 2025 at the University of Ghana Stadium.
The final promises a fascinating clash of styles: Union’s explosive front line versus GCAA’s organized, high-pressing machine. For both teams, it’s a chance to make history and claim corporate football’s top prize.
