Germany has appointed Julian Nagelsmann as the new head coach of the German mens national side until July 2024. This development was made after Germany parted ways with former manager Hansi Flick earlier this month.
Hansi Flick’s dismissal came after a humiliating 4-1 defeat to Japan in a friendly encounter on September 9. The defeat added on to a lackluster 2022 FIFA World Cup which saw the Germans get outed in the group stages.
The former Bayern Munich boss has taken Flick’s stead at DieMannschaft; Nagelsmann was also shown the exit at Bayern earlier in March this year with 5 wins from 10 league (Bundesliga) games, spelling the end for the 36 year-old at the Bavarian club. He has however been tasked to lead the German national team on a 10-month contract until the European Championships next summer.
Germany is hoping that the appointment of Nagelsmann will increase their chances of prizing away the coveted European Championship (EUROS) trophy on home soil between June 14 – July 14, 2024.
Nagelsmann begins his stint as Germany’s manager with a friendly encounter against the United States Mens National Team (USMNT) in Connecticut on October 14 before facing Mexico three days later.
