French Ligue 1: André Ayew grabs late goal to boost Le Havré survival hopes

Black Stars Captain Andre Ayew scored a stoppage-time goal against Strasbourg on Saturday at the Stade Océan to move his club, Le Havré, out of the drop zone.

After seizing control of the game and duly rewarded for their efforts with a Yassine Kechta brace, Le Havre looked all but certain to secure maximum points and snap a six-game winless run.

However, the ghost of the past 6 games lingered mightily in the last 10 minutes as Frederic Guilbert pulled a goal back for Strasbourg with less than 5 minutes to go, setting up a tense finale.

The jittery feel around the Stade Océan was understandable, given the team’s battle with relegation and having to make the most of their chances, especially home games.

The narrative, however, would change as Andre Ayew, culpable of missing a clear-cut opportunity minutes earlier, drilled a low near post shot to extend his sides lead to 3-1 to see off Strasbourg.

After scoring in successive League games — the first time since completing his move to Le Havre — Ayew has increased his goal tally in the league to 5.

In the meantime, Le Havre move out of the drop zone to 15th, before fellow relegation strugglers Metz take to the field.

The next rescue mission of the team sees them play away to OGC Nice.
