A three-day protest, #FreeTheCitizens and #StopGalamseyNow, began on Thursday, October 3, in Accra.

The march started at Legon’s Okponglo Traffic Light and passed through the Airport Traffic Light, National Service Secretariat, Electoral Commission Office, and Parliament, before ending at Independence Square.

The protesters aim to submit a petition to the Attorney General, calling for the release of the 53 arrested individuals.

Dressed in black and red, the protesters carried signs urging Ghanaian leaders to provide better governance.

The Ghana Police Service has been present to ensure the protest remains peaceful.

The hashtags #FreeTheCitizens and #StopGalamsey are trending on X (formerly Twitter), with many online supporters joining the conversation around the ongoing protests in Ghana.

Online protesters are sharing their thoughts, experiences, and creative expressions related to the demonstrations, which aim to raise awareness about illegal mining and demand the release of arrested protesters.

Many posts feature personal stories, images from the protest, and strong calls for action against the environmental degradation caused by galamsey activities.
