In a grand celebration of diplomatic excellence, the Legon Centre for International Affairs and Diplomacy (LECIAD) recently honored former Radio Univers Journalist, David Quaye as the “Best Up-and-coming Diplomat of the Year.”

The annual LECIAD Awards ceremony, which took place at the elegant Oak Plaza Hotel in Ghana, brought together luminaries from the world of international affairs, students, and distinguished guests, including the Chief Director at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration.
The award is renowned for acknowledging those individuals who have demonstrated remarkable attributes of diplomacy and show the promise of achieving greatness in the field.
Mr. Quaye, a student at the University of Ghana, has been at the forefront of diplomatic initiatives, showcasing remarkable qualities such as tact, negotiation skills, and a deep understanding of global affairs.
In his acceptance speech, David Quaye expressed his gratitude for the recognition and underlined the importance of diplomacy in today’s interconnected world.

He has actively engaged in numerous diplomatic simulations, debates, and initiatives, exhibiting a remarkable acumen for understanding complex geopolitical issues.
Notably, he participated in a simulation exercise organized by the Regional Programme Energy Security and Climate Change in Sub-Saharan Africa of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) and Adelphi at Strathmore University in Nairobi, Kenya.
The exercise, which brought together participants from across the continent, focused on the critical nexus between climate change and security. During this exercise, Mr. Quaye assumed the role of China’s president, where he showcased his deep understanding of international affairs, climate change, and the importance of security.
His role as China’s president allowed him to address the complex challenges facing the world, emphasizing China’s commitment to addressing climate change and its implications for global security. This experience highlighted his ability to negotiate and collaborate on critical global issues.
In another significant endeavor, David Quaye led his IGAD delegation at the LECIAD simulation exercise, addressing the ongoing Sudanese crisis. In this challenging diplomatic simulation, he advocated for a ceasefire and strived to find a middle ground between the conflicting factions to pave the way for a return to civilian rule in Sudan.
His ability to navigate the complex web of political, social, and historical factors in the Sudanese crisis demonstrated his commitment to diplomacy’s core principles, including conflict resolution and peacebuilding.
