Former Black Stars midfielder, Stephen Appiah has taken the initiative to donate essential items to victims of the Akosombo Dam Spillage that occurred few weeks ago.
The incident hit some communities in the Volta region including Mepe, Battor, Sogakope Mafi, Adidome, Ada, and others have been affected.
Many homes had been completely submerged due to the spillage of the dam by the Volta River Authority, above which was influenced by torrential rains that have increased the volume of the water in the dam.
In the quest to restore livelihood to over 30,000 affected victims in all 8 districts so far, the former Bkack Stars Captain, in collaboration with the Wembley Sports Complex extended a helping hand to the affected persons involved in the Akosombo Dam Spillage.
Donations included relief items, mattresses and food to help sustain the lives of affected persons.
Member of Parliament for the North Tongu District, Hon. Okudzeto Ablakwa heralded Stephen Appiah for the kind gesture towards the affected persons.
In a post cited by UniversSports, the NDC Member of Parliamentent reacted with the statement,
“The legendary Stephen ‘Tornado’ Appiah is not only blessed with exceptionally talented feet; more importantly, he is an amazing human being with an awesome heart. ”

During his playing days, Stephen Appiah was named SWAG Most Promising Football Star of the Year in 1997. He won the Ghana Footballer of the Year Award in 2005 and 2007 and was also adjudged Footballer of the Year in Turkey in 2007.
He retired from professional football in 2012 at the age of 32.
