Election’24:115 persons in police custody for looting properties

The Ghana Police Service has revealed that a total of number of 115 persons have been arrested for various offences lncluding looting properties , damaging buildings and causing chaos across the country after the December 7 , 2024 polls came to a close .

The development is part of the National Elections Security Taskforce plans to preserve public law and order across country after the results have been declared , with H.E John Dramani being declared as President – Elect.

Speaking to pressmen at the National Elections Security Taskforce Press Centre at the Police Headquarters , the Director of Public Affairs , ACP Grace Ansah Akrofi intimated that the Police Service is on top of issues and has largely restored calm across the country with 9 additional arrests being made to bring the total number of persons in custody from 106 as at December 10 to 115 as at press time of December 11, 2024.

” The Ghana Police Service and its sister agencies on the National Elections Taskforce want to serve our best intentions to the whole country ,that our men both plain clothed and uniformed personnel across the country to man vital government installations to provide security to all persons and guard public peace . As part of such efforts , we have made an additional 9 arrests to bring to a total number of persons in our custody to 115 and steps are underway to get all perpetrators of such irresponsible acts to book to serve as a deterrent to the general public”.

ACP Ansah Akrofi further added that there are intensified patrols by both military and police personnel across the country to deal with such escalating attacks on properties across the nation.

She remarked that there are further deliberations and engagements between both the Police and civil society actors , political parties and opinion leaders to de escalate such tensions which have the propensity to disturb the peace and quiet of the country ahead of the transitional period .
