Eid-Ul-Adha: Gov’t declares Monday, 17th June public holiday

The Ministry of interior affairs has declared 17th June, 2024 a public holiday due to the celebration of the upcoming Eid-Ul-Adha.

In a press release issued by the Ministry, it is explained that Eid-Ul-Adha, which is a statutory public holiday, falls on Sunday, June 16th, 2024. However, in accordance with Section 2 of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act (Act 601), the President of the Republic of Ghana has, by Executive Instrument (E.I.), declared the following day, Monday, June 17th, 2024, as an additional public holiday to be observed throughout the country.

This decision is aimed at allowing citizens to fully observe and celebrate the important Islamic festival of Eid-Ul-Adha, also known as the ‘Festival of Sacrifice’.

“The general public is hereby informed that Sunday, 16th June, 2024 marks Eid-Ul-Adha which is a Statutory Public Holiday.”

However, in view of the fact that 16th June, 2024 falls on a Sunday, His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Ghana, has by Executive instrument (E.I), in accordance with Section 2 of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act, (Act 601) declared Monday, 17th June, 2024 as an additional Public Holiday and should be observed as such throughout the country.”
