The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced that it will re-exhibit the corrected Provisional Voters’ Register (PVR) online, following concerns raised about discrepancies in the initial exhibition.

In a statement issued on September 26, 2024, the EC clarified that the decision to opt for an online re-exhibition is due to time constraints ahead of the 2024 general elections, ensuring accessibility for voters to confirm their details digitally.

This comes in response to the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s demand for a forensic audit of the PVR and a 5-day physical re-exhibition of the register.

The EC rejected the call for a forensic audit, stating that it was premature, as the Commission had not yet exhausted all internal processes for cleaning the register. They stated that there are legal and administrative processes for cleaning the PVR and until those are utilized, the call for a forensic audit cannot be justified.

Despite acknowledging the NDC’s concerns, the EC emphasized that the re-exhibition will proceed online to meet the necessary timelines ahead of the elections.

”Whilst the Commission is not opposed to undertaking another Physical Exhibition of the corrected PVR in the Forty Thousand (40,000) plus Exhibition Centres, given the time it takes to print and distribute the PVR (three to four weeks), it will not be feasible to achieve this due to the limited time to the General Election.”

“The Commission intends to implement an Online Exhibition of the PVR at no cost to Registered Voters. Voters will be able to report on anomalies with their details within a time frame to be made available to the Public. The Voters Register will be displayed online until Election Day.”
