Fusion and reggae-dancehall artist DrupZ has opened up about his inspiring journey through music, fashion, and personal growth during an interview on At The DJ’s Mercy with Kvng Kelly on April 25, 2025.

Born and raised in Sekondi in Ghana’s Western Region, DrupZ has been passionate about music from a young age, starting his singing career in church. For him, music is truly “food for the soul,” a sentiment that has guided him through close to a decade of music-making.

During the interview, DrupZ recounted the challenges he faced along the way, including dropping out of university due to financial difficulties.

“When I was in Maritime, in my third year, I couldn’t complete because of financial support to finish. I was offering BSc Nautical Science at Regional Maritime University,” he shared.

Coming from the seaside town of Sekondi, DrupZ explained how his environment influenced not only his music but also his fashion sense.

“Coming from the seaside, I’ve seen seamen coming from the sea and they dress well. I like their style, so I take inspiration from the seamen at my end in Sekondi. When you see Ambuley, the way he dresses and all that… also brought the vibes,” he said.

DrupZ describes his sound as a blend of fusion, reggae, and dancehall, drawing inspiration from everyday life experiences.

“There are times that inspiration comes when you least expect it,” he noted. “I was sitting in a troski once, and it came to me, so I called the producer and told him to play the beat because I was on my way there. Sometimes it comes from what’s happening around you.”

Over the years, DrupZ has worked with some of Ghana’s top producers, including Sammy Black, Gafacci, Samsney and Vampire Beatz. His talent even landed him a collaborative EP with Gafacci, featuring award-winning artist Joey B.

Before fully diving into music, Drupz pursued a career in modelling between 2015 and 2017.

“I have been a model. I used to model back in 2015 to 2017. When the modeling came, I thought perhaps I could enter the music industry through that, but it wasn’t going the way I wanted. I felt musicians had a lot of respect and visibility, and many models ended up supporting musicians instead of the other way around. So I decided to push the music and combine it with modeling later,” he explained.

Closing the conversation, DrupZ encouraged upcoming artistes to stay committed, particularly those in the dancehall scene, urging them not to give up on their dreams. He also teased an exciting upcoming project titled Stadium Status, a collaboration with DJ Fortune, the producer behind Asakaa’s hit “Condemn.”

With his resilience, creativity, and authenticity, Drupz continues to chart his path as one of Ghana’s promising fusion and dancehall talents.
