The Ghana Health Service has announced plans of conducting a mass coronavirus vaccination ahead of this year’s Christmas festivities.
The vaccination of citizens who are yet to receive the jabs is expected to begin on Wednesday, December 14, and will last for five days.
This is to aid in the prevention of a possible surge in coronavirus cases before, during, and after the Christmas festivities.
The process is under the theme, Protect Yourself, Protect Your Family, Get Vaccinated Against Covid-19, and is expected to vaccinate over 1.4 million people within these five days, which ends on December 18, 2022.
As of November 30, 2022, the Ghana Health Service has rolled out a total of 21,179,341 vaccine doses.
In a media engagement, the Director General of the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Patrick Kumah Aboagye, urged Ghanaians to disregard reports that the Pfizer vaccine to be used during the period has expired.
He explained that the vaccine has a life span of 15 months and not 12, as has been speculated.
“The current expiry for Pfizer is 15 months and not the 12 months. This issue that we are administering the expired vaccine is not true,” he said.
