Chief Justice of the Republic of Ghana, His Lordship Justice Kwesi Aning Yeboah has reached the mandatory retirement age of 70 years as inscribed in the 1992 constitution for the Justices of the Superior courts of judicature.
The retirement takes effect from today, May 24,2023 as part of the statutory requirements.
Kwesi Aning Yeboah was born on May 24,1953 in a town called Toase in the Ashanti Region and received his secondary Education at the Amaniampong Secondary School and Apam Secondary School respectively.
He then gained admission to the University of Ghana, Legon where he read Law for his undergraduate studies and was subsequently called to the Bar in 1981.
Justice Yeboah was involved in private legal practice for a longtime ,serving as a partner in a renowned law firm in the Eastern Region, Afisem Chambers.
He then rose through the ranks to become an Assistant State Attorney in Koforidua .
As a strong advocate of the legal profession , Justice Yeboah served as the President of the Eastern Regional Bar Association before being appointed a High Court Judge in 2002 and subsequently to the Supreme Court of Ghana in six years (2008).
He was nominated for the enviable position of Chief Justice by the Nana Akuffo Addo administration in 2019 , and he was fully sworn into office in 2020 as substantive CJ.
He has served as the head of the Judicial Arm of state for a period of 3 years.
He will be replaced by his Supreme Court colleague, Her Ladyship Justice Gertrude Esaaba Torkonoo upon Parliamentary vetting and ratification.
