Chief Justice of the republic of Ghana, Her Ladyship Justice Gertrude Araba Asaaba Torkornoo has called on Alumni of the University of Ghana the School of Law (UGSoL), the public sector and public institutions to donate generously to the construction of the School of law’s New building Complex.
Speaking as guest of honour at the official Launch of the UGSoL Alumni Homecoming week and Sod-cutting ceremony of the UGSoL New building complex held on Monday, she eulogized the Vice-Chancellor and Dean of the university for actualizing the dream of enhancing the study of law in the university
She encouraged the university community to continue being a pacesetter and assist other faculties in enhancing their studies.
“Allow me to express my gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana and the Dean for nurturing and actualizing this vision of creating a space that is appropriately designed furnished and equipped to house facilities that are important for the practice and study of law. The group here has remain strong and tended. The nurturing has remained exceptional and the leaders has carried all the strands of strength required to lead the exponential growth of learning of law in the country. Clearly therefore it is important for this standard setting institutions to continue to be a pacesetter and to assist the newer law faculties in enhancing the quality of their programs.”
She further called upon all stakeholders to give a strong push to the university by donating to help the school complete the project within its timeline.
“I wish to use this opportunity to invite all faculties of law and institutions including parliament and all persons involved in the learning, implementation and application of law to see the necessity of deepening the investment made in understanding the nature of law and rule of law. I therefore call on Alumni, the public sector and private institutions to donate generously to this project. It is evident that the university of Ghana school of law has commenced construction of the building complex with their own resources and with the strong push from alumni and corporate bodies the school will be able to complete the project within its project timeline.”
Also Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, as guest speaker of the ceremony, affirmed her support and that of her officers towards the project. She called for more backing to help complete the building complex.
“I have been extremely supportive of this project; all my officers, the provost and technical persons have been extremely helpful so far and the Dean has promised time and again that this is going to happen within 24 months. In fact just this morning he has revised that to 18 months and so we are looking forward to the support of all of you. Thank you so much for those who have already contributed but we will be coming and asking for more. “
