The College of Basic and Applied Sciences (CBAS) at the University of Ghana has held its 4th Biennial Science and Development Conference under the theme,”Sustainable Solutions for Energy, Food Security, Environment, and Health.”
The three-day event began with an opening ceremony at the Great Hall and continued at the ISSER Conference Centre. It brought together researchers, academics, and industry stakeholders to showcase groundbreaking work through research abstracts, poster sessions, and presentations from both local and international participants.
Co-chair of the planning committee Professor Elvis Tiburu, noted the growing global reach of the conference. He said this year’s event attracted an impressive number of international researchers whose contributions stood out alongside those of their local counterparts, reinforcing the platform’s reputation for fostering cutting-edge scientific dialogue.
During the opening ceremony, Provost of CBAS Professor Sandow Mark Yidana, emphasized the college’s role in advancing the University of Ghana’s vision of becoming a world-class research institution. Reflecting on the legacy of the college’s six schools—some dating back to the university’s founding—he highlighted their contributions to pioneering projects, technological innovation, and high-impact research.
”Our vision goes beyond academic excellence. We are committed to developing world-class scientists capable of addressing both national priorities and global challenges in sustainable agriculture, science, and engineering.”
Professor Yidana added that the biennial conference was designed to provide a platform for faculty and researchers to share findings, engage industry partners, and foster collaborative ventures that bridge academia and real-world problem-solving.
Delivering the closing remarks at the launch, Pro Vice-Chancellor and acting chairperson Professor Gordon Awandare, reinforced the university’s commitment to interdisciplinary research.
”The challenges we face in energy, health, agriculture, and environmental sustainability demand integrated solutions that transcend traditional academic boundaries.”
By convening diverse voices and spotlighting transformative research, the 4th CBAS Biennial Conference highlighted current scientific advancements and set the stage for future collaborations aimed at delivering sustainable, impactful solutions for Ghana and beyond.
