Reigning champions of the Ghana premier league, Medeama SC recorded their first ever win in the CAF champions league as Kamaradini’s late headed goal ensured a hard fought 2-1 victory over CR Belouizdad at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium yesterday.

Medeama were up against the wall prior to kick off, having been winless winless in their last 3 games with the loss against Al Ahly on matchday 1 of the CAF Champions league; the team’s performance was a disappointment in a relatively underwhelming season.

CR Belouizdad’s early first half strike sent jitters across the Baba Yara Stadium with fans dreading a possible drubbing of Medeama SC. The Algerian side built upon where they left off in their last 3-0 home victory over Tanzanian side Young Africans, with Raouf’s penalty putting Belouizdad a goal ahead.

Medeama managed to get a foot in the game and found a way back before the break through by Daniel Lomotey.

Medeama dominated proceedings after the break but the Tarkwa-side were pronounced guilty of profligacy, spurning numerous opportunities.

The ‘Never give up’ gaffers continued to dominate the game and were duly rewarded in stoppage time when 21-year old forward, Kamaradini Mamadu got his head to a cross and guided his header into the bottom corner to cause jubilations amongst spectators.

Evans Adortey and his charges managed to nick their first win in continental football, although through difficult circumstances. Medeama will be hoping the victory serves as a step in the right direction when they face Young Africans in their next CAF champions league game. The match will be set for Friday 8th December, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium  at 4:oopm GMT.
