Some section of Ghanaians who followed the WBC featherweight bout involving Ghana’s Isaac Dogbe and Robeisi Ramirez believe the one-time world champion has a lot to learn following his defeat to the Cuban boxer.
The Ghanaian lost by a unanimous decision against his opponent Robeisy Ramirez of Cuba in what was said to be a crucial bout for Dogbe in his bid to re-claim the word title.
Some believe Isaac Dogbe’s defensive prowess was nothing to write home about therefore needs to work on it while Others were of the view that he is marginally at a disadvantage with regards to his arm length.
In an exclusive interview with Univers Sports, some Ghanaians who followed the bout shared their opinions on the outcome of the bout.
One individual intimated that Isaac Dogboe is still upskilling and despite his experience in boxing he has a lot to learn to bounce back to his best.
“Isaac Dogboe is still miles away from becoming the complete boxer we all yearn for. He still has a long way to go especially with regards to his conditioning, fight management. He is very defenseless and that’s not good for a top level boxer. Boxing itself is all about self defense. We take solace in the fact that he is still young and is still on the learning curve” Frank told Univers Sports.
Another Person called on Ghanaians to rally their support behind Isaac Dogbe despite the loss.
“He leaves himself too open to receive shots. Nonetheless, I think Isaac has lost some kind of support and morale backing from the nation and it’s time Ghanaians rally behind him and offer him the necessary support to boost his morale” Emmanuel opined to Univers Sports.
Another individual admonished Isaac Dogbe to work vigorously on his defense.
“Isaac Dogboe seems a very solid fighter but always has the height and reach disadvantage. That said, I always have issues with his defensive abilities. He looked very poor defending Ramirez punches and that was his unmaking. I am just of the hope that he will come good even after losing this world title. But he needs to work on his defense because even Manny Pacquaio does defend at times”.
Isaac Dogbe’s loss on Saturday against Cuban Robeisy Ramirez is his third career defeat. Dogbe’s boxing career statistics stands at 24 wins with 15 coming in a way of knockout. The loss to Ramirez was the first since moving up to featherweight. Dogboe’s career losses has all come at the title level.
“First of all I will thank God Almighty for coming out safely. I’ll secondly like to thank my coaches and to the rest of the team and to the people that prayed for me and wished me well. We didn’t get the decision today but we will definitely be back. I still have a lot of work to do I felt short tonight, congratulations to Ramirez he is a terrific fighter, he is a great guy. I was the aggressor but I think I wasn’t aggressive enough. I couldn’t push as much as my coach wanted”. Isaac Dogboe said after the bout.
The once domineering figure in the WBO junior featherweight seems to be having a difficult turn at that weight division after losing his world title following his earlier back-to-back defeat to Mexican boxer Emmanuel Navarette.
It is unclear where his career will go after this defeat but there are concerns that he has reached the limit of his featherweight division.
