Accra Great Olympics put on a dominant display on Monday afternoon to beat regional rivals Accra Lions by 3-0 at the Accra Sports Stadium in a one-sided encounter which saw Oly Dade move to the top of the league log.

The host scored all three goals before half time to help maintain their impressive start to the season, one which has seen Olympics score 4 goals and conceded none thus far.

Prior to kick off, Oly Dade were looking to return to winning ways after playing out a goalless draw in their previous outing against Karela United.

Olympics started the game on a good note with Michael Osei teeing up Michael Yeboah to put them up by 1-0 in the 10th minute.

The Great Olympics refused to take their foot of the pedal and were rewarded with a second goal 2 minutes after the first; a fine flowing team move was capped off with a Michael Osei low strike which was kept out by the outstretched right foot of Accra Lions’ Daniel Afful. However, Afful could do little about the rebound as Michael Yeboah steered his effort into a gaping goal to increase the host advantage and secure his brace.

The game was finally put to bed in the 19th minute when Emmanuel Antwi struck from the edge of the box after his initial free kick attempt came off the human wall.

Oly were home and dry before the interval but looked to further reassert their superiority in the game 6 minutes after the break when Michael Osei rounded Accra Lions’ Daniel Afful but his finish lacked accuracy as he could only find the side net.

Accra Lions lacked the grit needed on the day and seemed to be bemused by the attacking impetus show cases by Accra Great Olympics in the first 20 minutes, of which they failed to recover from.

The host maintained their composure throughout the final minutes to see out the game, keeping a 5th consecutive cleansheet in the process; one that solidifies their claim as the best defensive side in the League.

Great Olympics faithfuls will be pleased with the team’s performance and the outcome of the game after they lost by a similar scoreline against the visitors last season. Manager of the side, Annor Walker affirmed this in his post match conference

“First I will give thanks to the Almighty, congratulate my team, the players for a disciplined football performance they put this afternoon. In fact, it is something that we have trained for, that we have put pressure on them so that we take our chances very early in the game and it worked perfectly for us. So I will say it’s a big revenge for me and Accra great Olympics…it’s about time I have [to take] revenge with the help of my players; tactically the way they played, I’m happy.”

The win sees Accra Great Olympics leapfrog Boafoakwa Tano and Sarmatex to sit at the summit of the ongoing Betpawa Premier League, with a superior goal difference as all three clubs have 9 points from their first five outings.
