New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has vowed to prosecute those responsible for violence during the recent Ablekuma North parliamentary elections, warning that justice will be served if the NPP returns to power in 2029.
Speaking at the party’s 2025 National Delegates Conference on Saturday July 19,at the University of Ghana Stadium, Bawumia described the violence as a threat to Ghana’s democracy and called on President John Dramani Mahama to act swiftly to hold the perpetrators accountable.
“Let us focus on the violence and thuggery via hoodlums carried out in the recent Ablekuma elections in full view of the police and cameras. I again call on His Excellency the President to bring the perpetrators to book and remind them that the elephant never forgets.”
“No matter how long it takes, we will prosecute the perpetrators when we assume office in 2029, insha Allah,” he added.
Bawumia, who was accompanied by his wife, Samira Bawumia, and running mate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO), received a warm reception at the stadium. Their joint appearance was a symbolic show of unity as the NPP prepares for its next flagbearer selection and the 2028 general elections.
The conference convened delegates from across the country to deliberate on key party matters, including a proposed constitutional amendment that would expand the party’s electoral college.
Bawumia’s strong stance on political violence comes at a time when public concern over electoral integrity remains high. His comments signal a commitment by the NPP to restore accountability and strengthen democratic processes if returned to power.
