Atletico Madrid has embraced the viral comment “Ah sh**, here we go again,” originally made by CJ (Carl Johnson) from the popular Rockstar video game Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (GTA SA), which was released in 2004.

CJ, the protagonist of one of the world’s most iconic action-adventure games, made this remark upon his return to Los Santos (his hometown) after a five-year stint in Liberty City. His arrival was rough—he was captured by Officer Tenpenny and his colleagues, then thrown out into rival territory controlled by the Ballas. As CJ walked through an alley, feeling both dejected and determined, he realised he was about to start something big, something challenging. It was a moment of redemption, and that’s when he uttered the now-famous line: “Ah sh**, here we go again.”

This line has gained widespread popularity online, particularly when people are about to face repetitive tasks or duties. Many netizens use it to express their frustration at having to do something once more. Atletico Madrid is the latest entity to join this trend.

In the UEFA Champions League round of 16 draw, Atletico Madrid was drawn against their derby rivals, Real Madrid. For Atletico, this clash feels repetitive, especially since they just faced Real Madrid in a recent La Liga match, which ended in a 1-1 draw.

Following the draw, Atletico Madrid posted the iconic CJ quote, “Ah sh**, here we go again,” on Facebook, with the caption “Derby again,” signaling the repetitive nature of their encounters with their rivals.

The first leg of this UEFA Champions League match will take place on Tuesday, March 4, with the second leg scheduled for Wednesday, March 12.
