President Akufo-Addo has congratulated the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, on his convincing win in the just-ended 2024 General Elections.
This follows the official declaration of the election results by the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Jean Mensa, which revealed that the former President secured 6,328,397 votes, approximately 56.55%, while his fierce opponent, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, garnered 4,657,304 votes, approximately 41.61%.
In a statement issued on December 9, President Akufo-Addo congratulated John Mahama and expressed his willingness to support the President-elect in achieving his vision.
“Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has called the President-elect, John Dramani Mahama, to congratulate him on his decisive victory in the just-ended presidential election.
President Akufo-Addo expressed his commitment to ensuring a seamless transfer of power on 7th January 2025 and looks forward to working with the President-elect and his team to achieve this goal,” the statement read.
The President also commended the Electoral Commission for its tireless efforts in ensuring a free and fair election, as well as journalists, party agents, and other stakeholders who contributed to the success of the electoral process.
“The President also congratulates the Electoral Commission and the Ghanaian people for a successful election that reflects the enduring strength of Ghana’s democracy. He acknowledges the commitment and participation of all stakeholders, which have ensured that the democratic process in Ghana remains credible and peaceful.”
President Akufo-Addo has invited John Mahama for a meeting on December 11 at Jubilee House to initiate the transition process.
