President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has urged Organised Labour to reconsider its planned nationwide strike set for Thursday, October 10, assuring them of his commitment to addressing illegal mining.

On Thursday, October 3, 2024, the President held a closed-door meeting with union leaders, requesting more time to address their concerns, particularly regarding the damage caused to the nation’s natural resources.

The President assured the union leaders that he would revoke Legislative Instrument (L.I.) 2462, which permits mining in forest reserves.

He also promised to meet with them again next week to discuss more concrete solutions.

Organised Labour held an emergency meeting on Friday, October 4, to discuss the President’s appeal and to decide whether to extend the strike date or call it off completely. Their decision is yet to be made public.
