Ghana National Amputee football team, the Black challenge, have bounced back from a painful 2-1 defeat they suffered against Morocco in the second group game, to defeat compatriots Liberia by 5-0 in a final group game at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) Astro Turf in Accra.
The Ghanaian team recorded a resounding victory on a Thursday night on September 7th amidst cheers from a partisan crowd, with the game being played under floodlights.
The Black Challenge of Ghana were in high spirits as they secured a spot in the ssemi-finals of the competition, finishing runner-up in the group behind the leaders Morocco, who have won all three group games.
Ghana begun their campaign ny thrashing Uganda with a 7-0 victory in the opening game of the tournament. The team was seemingly hoping and eager to secure all three points in its next game but suffered a loss to Morocco, with the North Africans scoring a late dinner in injury time to secure all three points and pick the first slot in the semi-finals.
Ghana needed to avoid defeat against Liberia to progress into the knockout stages of the competition. The host came into the game fully prepared as they had only one job to do.
Hamza Mohammed scored the first goal for the Ghanaian team as Yusif Yahaya added another after the first 45 minutes. The Liberian team came in very strong after the break but all efforts to find the back of the net proved futile. Ghanaian skipper Mubarik Mohammed found the third goal to worsen matters for the Liberian side.
The visitors could have mounted a challenge but missed a number of decent opportunities in search of the opener. The Ghanaian side soon found their rhythm again, scoring two quick fire goals to leave the score at 5-0 after 90 minutes of play.
The 2021 African champions have now progressed to the semi Finals of the competition with 6 points and 13 goals behind Morocco with 9 points. Uganda and Liberia have been crashed out of the tournament after finishing 3rd and 4th in the group respectively.
Ghana will now face another North African giant, Egypt, in the ssemi-finals as the battle for supremacy in Amputee Football takes shape.
The Finals is slated for 9th September at the UPSA Astro Turf.
