In a significant stride towards officiating excellence, Ghanaian referee duo, Daniel Laryea and Kwasi Acheampong Brobbey have been chosen by the Confederation of African football Association (CAF) to partake in the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) Preparation Course in Abidjan.
The course is scheduled to take place between October 11 to October 16, 2023 in Abidjan.
The aim of the course is to equip referees with the needed training ahead of the upcoming AFCON showpiece in La Côte D’Ivoire. Match officials are expected to undergo theoretical, technical and physical training as well.
The list includes center referees, assistant referees, video assistant referees (VAR), technical instructors, physical trainers, VAR technicians and IT support.
North African giants, Egypt and Algeria have the highest representatives on the list with three each, whereas Nigeria has no representative on the list.
Four VAR referees were selected from Morocco, Egypt, South Africa and Mauritius. Seven technical instructors and physical trainers from Djibouti, Morocco, Senegal, Côte D’Ivoire and Burundi.
The AFCON 23 will commence from the 13th of January to 11th February, 2024 as the tournament was delayed a year due to adverse climatic conditions in La Côte D’Ivoire.
