AFCON 2023 Qualifiers: Chris Hughton names squad to face Madagascar

Head coach of the black stars Chris Hughton has released Ghana’s squad for the next Africa Cup of Nations Group E qualifier against Madagascar. The Black Stars Coach will lead a squad of 24 players to Antananarivo on June 18, 2023 with the hope of beating them to book their ticket to the 2023  African cup of nations in Ivory Coast.

Alidu Seidu and Kwasi Okyere Wreidt return to the squad while Ernest Nuamah, who is based in Denmark, is called up for the first time for the senior national team after an impressive performance for Nordsjaelland in the Danish Superliga.

Additionally, there are some returns for Anderlecht midfielder Majeed Ashimeru, Amiens defender Nicholas Opoku, and the Moldova-based Patrick Kpozo.

With eight points after two victories and two draws in the first four games, Ghana leads the pack in group E, followed closely by Central Africa Republic with seven, and Angola in third position with 5 points. The group whipping boys Madagascar have a point after four games.

Ghana will play as visitors to Madagascar at Stade Kianja Barea in Antananarivo on Sunday, June 18, 2023.

According to reports, some players have reported to camp to begin preparations ahead of the crucial encounter against Madagascar, the rest of the squad are expected to report to camp soon to expedite their camping.

Defenders: Denis Odoi (Club Brugge), Alidu Seidu (Clermont Foot), Gideon Mensah (Auxerre), Patrick Kpozo (Sheriff Tiraspol), Daniel Amartey (Leicester City), Joseph Aidoo (Celta Vigo), Alexander Djiku (Strasbourg), Nicholas Opoku (Amiens)

Midfielders: Thomas Partey (Arsenal FC), Mohammed Kudus (Ajax Amsterdam), Majeed Ashimeru (Anderlecht), Salis Abdul Samed (Lens), Edmund Addo (Spartak Subotica)

Wingers: Joseph Painstil (Genk), Osman Bukari (Red Star Belgrade), KamalDeen Sulemana (Southampton), Ernest Nuamah (FC Nordsjaelland)
