From 1 June 2023, water service prices will be adjusted upwards for all consumer groups.

This follows the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission’s (PURC) review and approval of the water rate increase for the second quarter of 2023.

In a statement released on May 18, 2023, the Commission explained that the decision was influenced whilst recognizing factors such as cost of electricity and inflation among others.

“In taking this decision, the commission took cognizance of the cost of electricity, increased volume cost of chemicals for raw water treatment, the Ghana Cedi/US Dollar exchange rate and inflation,”

PURC said the decision was taken to minimize the impact of price hikes on consumers, while striking a balance between preventing prolonged power outages and their negative impact on jobs and livelihoods.

The statement proceeded to assure the public that the Commission will ensure quality service delivery as they continue to monitor operations of utility service providers.

“The Commission will continue to monitor the operations of the utility service providers to ensure value for money and quality service delivery,” the statement added.

During the same period, PURC increased electricity and natural gas tariffs by a total of 18.36%.

Below are details on the new tariffs for water services.
