Landlords get pay-back over unlucky Kwapong.
A neatly converted Kwabena Boateng Penalty, gave Legon hall a huge lift in their quest for glory in the UGFL, with a narrow 1-0 win over the Kwapong hall Football team in an intense ‘hamattan Friday’ fixture, that saw a nervy ending to the game.
Legon Hall Captain Kwabena Boateng capped a MVP performance with a goal to his name.
Kwapong were dominant in possession with their early incursions almost yielding fruit; Hafiz forced a reaction save from Goalkeeper Samuel Nyarko, moments before the shot stopper spilled a bouncing Kelvin Ankrah shot but went on to recover the ball quickly.
The landlords remained resolute in defence, despite playing on the back foot in the first 20mins, as they struggled to contain Kwapong down the middle. Kelvin Ankra’s maneuverings, and Sancho’s inside runs from the right drew a lot of fouls and openings for the All Blacks.
The game suddenly sprang to life after Kwapong defender Sparrow miskicked a long range Boateng pass, only for Homawu Wisdom to sneak in and seize the ball, before his resulting run into the box saw him impeded.
Sparrow’s panic attempt to make up for the error ended up in a clumsy challenge with Referee Emmanuel Sowah pointing to the Penalty spot.
Kwabena Boateng made no mistake; as he buried the ball in the right bottom corner to beat goalkeeper Tolbert.
The All blacks responded with a high tempo display in the second half. Creator-in-chief, Sancho, was through on goal but was denied by Legon Hall goalie Samuel Nyarko, moments before Ankrah’s feeble shot was parried away in a similar one-on-one situation.
Legon Hall could have extended their lead with another sweet counter which saw Darko set up Luis in the 18-yard box but the midfielder failed to finesse accurately.
Kwapong Hall pushed for the equalizer, and should have hit Jackpot with a glaring opportunity falling for Tieku, but the forward missed a sitter; blasting agonizingly wide in virtually the last kick of the game.
Kwabena Boateng captain for legon hall speaking after the game said it was a hard fought win but there is more room for improvement.
” My team played very well we had to hold on to the press and break through the lines which we did and we scored through a penalty. it was a hard fight but we won congrats to all my teammates and supporters. However, we need to work more on our pressing and our positioning we saw some deficiencies in our movement we have to work on that and play better in our second game” Boateng told UniversSports.
Legon Hall now lie summit of group D with 3 points, ahead of Distance Education and the United Nations Hall (Evandy).
