Management of the University of Ghana has released the academic and residential fees for the 2022/2023 academic year.

The new fees were posted on the University’s website on Tuesday, December 13, 2022.

The academic fees for some regular students have been increased by 18%, 19%, and as high as 22% based on the Schools and Colleges in the University.

A notice from the University’s website indicated that the increment in fees is due to the increase in the cost of operations and Parliamentā€™s inability to approve the 2022/2023 academic year.

It added that the new fees include new charges approved by various student governance bodies, which contributed to the increase: GRASAG Development Levy GHS – 250, GRASAG 75th Anniversary Legacy Project charger, which will cost GHS 100, and GHS100 for the SRC Development Fund. Reprographic Fee of GHS 5 per student has been added to the fees after an order from the Courts.

AsĀ you may be aware, University of Ghana did not implement the fee increases approved by Parliament for the 2019/2020 academic year.Ā  The main reason for deferment of the fee increases at the time was to avoid exacerbating the financial impact on parents of the pandemic which had just begun.

However, due to the increasingĀ cost of operations and the fact that Parliament has not as at today, 13thĀ December 2022 approved fees for the 2022/2023Ā academic year, it has become necessary for the University to implement the 2019/2020 approved fees as an interim measure.

Below areĀ additional costs that have been included as approved by the respective student governance bodies, and endorsed by the University Council:

  1. GRASAG Development Levy ā€“ GHS 250
  1. GRASAG 75th Anniversary Legacy Project ā€“ GHS 100
  1. SRC DevelopmentĀ Levy ā€“ GHS 100

ByĀ an order from the Courts, a Reprographic Fee of GHS 5 per student has been included in the fees.

ResidentialĀ fees have also been increased, and an additional one-time electronic access fee of GHS 300 each is being charged to residents of the traditional halls (Volta, Commonwealth, Mensah Sarbah, Akuafo and Legon halls), as contribution towards the cost of installation and maintenance of electronic access control systems at the halls to enhance security.

Please be informedĀ that the fee schedules published are provisional and the schedules and amounts to be paid will be updated once fees for the 2022/2023 academic year are approved by Parliament.

TheĀ University of Ghana counts on your continued support.

The provisional fee schedules are displayed on theĀ Universityā€™s website.

Thank you.
