Radio Univers has honoured three outgoing volunteers with the Giovanni Caleb Award at the 2026 Leavers’ Dinner, Awards & Handover Ceremony held on 19 September 2026.
The Giovanni Caleb Award is given to outgoing Radio Univers volunteers who have demonstrated dedication, commitment and exceptional service during their tenure at the station. The award was named after Ghanaian media personality and Radio Univers alumnus Giovanni Caleb in recognition of his sponsorship of the awards presented at the ceremony.
Former Head of Sports Desk Erica Odeenyin Odoom was named the overall winner, while former Editor in charge of Digital Media Gabriel Tecco Mensah and former Chief Producer of Campus Exclusive Anita Azawodie were named first and second runners-up respectively.
Odoom described the recognition as a surreal moment, attributing her achievement to her passion for the job.
“I really feel great winning the Giovanni Caleb award. It feels surreal as well because throughout my journey at Radio Univers, I have dedicated my time going beyond what I’m even supposed to do just because I have the passion for the job.”
For Mensah, the award affirmed that his efforts during his time at the station had not gone unnoticed.
“It really felt good grabbing one of the awards as the most valuable volunteer of your cohort. It’s a great feeling and it’s a testament that, look, your work doesn’t go unnoticed and hard work pays.”
Azawodie also described the recognition as a deeply personal moment, saying it affirmed the value of her contribution to the station.
“I felt happy and I felt grateful that everything that I have done so far has been recognised. So it was not about the money, it’s about the recognition.”
