The University of Ghana’s Sports and Wellness Directorate has hinted at a major partnership with the Juventus Academy, which is expected to strengthen football development, coaching, education and internship opportunities for students.
The Director of Sports and Wellness at the University of Ghana, Dr. Austin Luguterah, disclosed the plans during a presentation organised by the Department of Physical Education and Sports Studies (PESSA) at the Jones-Quartey Building on Tuesday, August 18.
According to the Director, this partnership will see Kwadwo Asamoah’s academy establish a stronger presence on the University of Ghana campus, with the university football team also expected to benefit from the collaboration.
“The Sports and Wellness Directorate is building up a relationship with his academy and very soon Kwadwo Asamoah is present to be felt so much in the University of Ghana,” Dr. Luguterah said.

He revealed that the academy is expected to take up the university football team and register it to participate in the league, while technical personnel from Juventus could also become involved in football and academic activities at the university.
“Kwadwo Asamoah’s academy will be taking up the university football team. We’ll register them to play part of the league. We are building up a whole relationship that is going to be huge,” he added.
Dr. Luguterah explained that the partnership will also create opportunities for students of the Department of Physical Education and Sports Studies to gain practical experience through internships and interaction with experienced technical personnel.
“One of the goals of our partnership is to give opportunities for internship and others. Because remember that we have a department here. We have a Department of Physical Education and Sports Studies here, we groom talent,” he stated.

He also disclosed that the university has already begun work at the Ajax Parks, which are expected to form part of the academy’s operations on campus.
“They have started work slowly at the Ajax parks. Yes, so they’ll be taking over the Ajax parks. They’ll put them into a higher level of what you see at academy and then it will just be an extension of the academy on the campus,” Dr. Luguterah revealed.
Dr. Luguterah indicated that the full details of the partnership will be unveiled at a later date, describing the project as a major initiative for the university’s sports ecosystem.
