Ambassador-Designate of Russia to Ghana, Andrei Eduardovich Ordash, has highlighted the numerous opportunities available to Ghanaian students who choose to study the Russian language, including access to exchange and scholarship programmes at some of Russia’s leading universities.

He made the remarks at the 2026 Russian Language Day Celebration held at the University of Ghana’s Reginald Amonoo Building on Friday, June 5, 2026, where he underscored the role of language in strengthening ties between Ghana and Russia.

According to him, interest in the Russian language continues to grow among students of the University of Ghana, with hundreds currently enrolled in Russian language courses.

“In this academic year, about 500 students are studying the Russian language at the University of Ghana. This is a huge contingent of young people who have devoted their time to study our culture,” he said.

Touching on efforts to improve the teaching and learning of the language, Ordash noted that challenges relating to instructional materials have been addressed through support from the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

He explained that a programme introduced in 2025 led to the revision of learning materials and the printing of about 400 textbooks in Ghana to support students and facilitate the learning process.

Encouraging students to remain committed despite the language’s complexity, he said mastering Russian could unlock significant educational opportunities.

“Russian is considered one of the most difficult languages to learn in the world, but it opens up opportunities for you to study on scholarship programmes at the best universities in Moscow and other cities of the Russian Federation,” he stated.

Ordash also commended lecturers and professors for their dedication to promoting Russian language education and fostering cultural exchange between the two countries.
