As conversations continue to grow around the career paths available to University of Ghana Performing Arts students, some students from the department have weighed in, sharing insights into the directions they hope to pursue.
In an exclusive interview with Univers Entertainment, the students highlighted a number of career options they are considering within the creative industry.
“Music pays even in its sleep. Streaming royalties, features, tours — that’s where the long-term money is,” one student said.
“I will always choose the film industry because that’s where storytelling meets influence. You can change perspectives, push social messages, and still be recognised,” another student added.
“I’m team both. Act in movies and collaborate with musicians. I have to diversify or risk being broke,” another student shared.
Beyond the opportunities available, the students also spoke about the challenges young professionals face in the creative space.
Many acknowledged the unpredictable nature of creative careers, the competitiveness of casting calls, and the difficulty of sustaining momentum in music.
“The creative field isn’t easy. One day you’re on top, the next you’re cancelled. Casting calls are really competitive, and keeping your career going is a challenge on its own,” a student explained.
Despite these challenges, optimism remains high, as many students say they are ready to innovate, experiment, and leverage technology to expand their reach.
“We have to think bigger. Social media, streaming, and international collaborations are tools that can help us break barriers, and it’s up to us to use them to our advantage,” another student noted.
With Ghana’s creative industry continuing to grow, the next generation of actors, filmmakers, and musicians appears ready to make their mark. Whether on the big screen, on playlists, or across both platforms, the opportunities are endless.
