The Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has highlighted the wide range of opportunities available to students at the University of Ghana (UG) following the commissioning of the Ghana Tourism Development Company (GTDC) Campus Office on the University’s main campus.
The GTDC Campus Office was officially commissioned on Tuesday, March 3, 2026.
Speaking to Univers News, the Minister explained how the initiative is expected to benefit students.
“So apart from you being encouraged by the setting up of this office to explore the University of Ghana, there are also the job opportunities that it offers. Once tourists come, do you want to offer yourself as a tour guide? Do you know a place where you can build a relationship with the owner? … You can link that tourist, that student, or that professor who has come on sabbatical to go and explore another place apart from the University of Ghana. So all of these are opportunities that it lends itself to,” she said.
Abla Dzifa Gomashie also emphasised the value of Ghana’s culture and creative arts.
She encouraged students to collaborate with cultural groups, organise events, and use such platforms to generate income while gaining cross-cultural experience.
“You call together maybe 10 foreign students and say, ‘I want to give you a cultural night.’ Then they pay for it and you get to earn some money. You also get to learn about their culture and what opportunities are there in their country as well. There’s transfer of knowledge and transfer of experience,” she explained.
The GTDC Campus Office, located behind Legon Hall near the Hall’s southern gate, is designed to serve as a hub for innovation, creativity, and tourism engagement for students and the wider University community.
