Black Stars to face four-time World Cup winners Germany in a pre- World Cup friendly on Monday, March 30, 2026

The  Black Stars of Ghana are set to take on four-time world champions Germany in an international friendly scheduled for Monday, March 30, 2026, in Stuttgart.

The high-profile encounter forms part of preparations for both nations ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted jointly by Mexico, Canada, and the United States.

For Ghana, the friendly represents a crucial test as they gear up for a challenging World Cup group campaign.

The Black Stars have been drawn in Group L, where they will face  England, Croatia, and Panama.

The match against Germany marks the first confirmed pre-World Cup friendly announced by the Ghana Football Association, as head coach Otto Addo begins fine-tuning his squad ahead of the global showpiece.

Speaking on the fixture, Addo described the game as a valuable opportunity for his team.

“This is an amazing opportunity for us to test ourselves against one of the best teams in the world. Germany are a good side, and we can’t wait to face them in Stuttgart,” he said.

Germany head coach Julian Nagelsmann also welcomed the matchup, noting that it would serve as an important preparatory test for his side.

He explained that facing Ghana would help his team prepare for their World Cup encounter against Ivory Coast, citing similarities in playing style.

“We are very much looking forward to the clash with Otto’s team. Their strong transition play can give us a taste of what to expect in the World Cup group match against Ivory Coast,” Nagelsmann stated.

Historically, Ghana have faced Germany three times in all competitions, recording two defeats and one draw.

In their first friendly in Bochum in 1993, Germany won 6–1.

Two further encounters came at World Cups: in 2010 in South Africa, Germany prevailed 1–0 in the group stage, while their second group-stage meeting at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil ended in a 2–2 draw.

The Stuttgart showdown is expected to provide both teams with valuable insight as they intensify preparations for the 2026 World Cup.

It remains to be seen if Otto Addo will give opportunities to players in the Ghana Premier League to state a claim or present a squad closer to the final World Cup team.
