A Livestock and Poultry Research Centre at Borteyman, belonging to the University of Ghana, has reportedly been vandalised by individuals claiming to be National Security operatives.
One of the security personnel stationed on the land, Wahab Nakpah, who was assaulted during the altercation, narrated the incident to Univers News, describing how he and his colleagues were unfairly treated by the perpetrators.
“They took some of our items and money. One guy’s ₵1,000 was stolen, my colleague’s ₵4,500 was also taken, and they personally took my Apple Watch. One of my colleagues was punched in the face and was bleeding from his nose, but he’s fine now. There were about 10 military personnel and around 150 civilians who attacked us. For now, we’ve reported everything to our bosses, and they’ll take it up from there,” Nakpah recounted.
The incident, which occurred on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, prompted a visit to the site by the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Professor Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, and the Director of Special Operations at National Security, Richard Jakpa, to assess the damage and ascertain the facts.
In an interview with Univers News, Professor Amfo confirmed that the university had received reports of an alleged invasion and acts of vandalism by people claiming to be from National Security. She assured that steps are being taken to secure the land.
“We have come here together with National Security. There were reported acts of vandalism here yesterday. We will work closely with National Security and the government to ensure full occupation and protection of this land,” she stated.
The Vice-Chancellor further revealed that the university plans to construct 208 apartments for staff accommodation on the land, emphasising the need to protect it from the onset.
“As you can see, we are in the process of constructing 208 apartments for staff accommodation, and it’s important that we continue to have peaceful ownership of this land,” she added.
Meanwhile, Mr. Richard Jakpa, Director for Special Operations at National Security, said investigations are ongoing and assured that the perpetrators will be brought to justice. He also confirmed that the University of Ghana has proven its ownership of the land and urged anyone claiming ownership to come forward with valid documentation.
“Investigations are ongoing. We’ve met with the university, heard their side of the story, and we’ll get to the bottom of this issue. I encourage anyone claiming ownership of the land to step forward with proper documentation. I want to emphasise that National Security has no hand in this attack, and we will fish out those responsible,” Jakpa stated.
He further cautioned the public against individuals impersonating National Security personnel to commit crimes.
“There are a lot of people out there claiming to be part of us. Our work is complex, and though we don’t wear uniforms, every National Security officer has an ID card. I urge the public to report anyone using the name of National Security to commit crimes,” he warned.
