The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Professional Studies (UPSA), Prof. John Kwaku Mensah Mawutor, has announced that the university has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Hallmark Research Lab to establish a state-of-the-art Artificial Intelligence (AI) laboratory on campus.
Speaking at the second session of the university’s 17th Congregation Ceremony, Prof. Mawutor highlighted that the initiative will expose students to cutting-edge tools, expand their research capacity, and enhance teaching methodologies. He noted that the facility will also position UPSA as a hub for IT innovation while equipping graduates with the confidence and skills to compete globally.
“I’ve just signed an MoU with Hallmark Research Lab to establish an artificial intelligence laboratory on campus. This initiative will expose our students to cutting-edge tools, expand their research capacity, and enhance our teaching methodologies. More importantly, it will position UPSA as a hub for IT innovation, equipping graduates with the confidence and skills to compete globally while advancing Ghana’s unique identity in the digital age.”
In his congratulatory message to the graduates, Prof. Mawutor also challenged them to rethink the concept of unemployment, describing it as “one of the greatest deceptions ever faced by humanity.” He encouraged them to embrace creativity, skills, and problem-solving, stressing that “wherever there is a problem, there is work to be done, and they are the solution.”
“With a few years of my experience, let me share this truth with you: the concept of unemployment is one of the greatest deceptions ever faced by humanity. Serious deception. Please tell yourself today—you cannot be unemployed. There are jobs all around you. You carry ideas, skills, and creativity. Wherever there is a problem, there is work to be done. And you are the solution.”
The second session of the university’s 17th Congregation, held at the Kofi Ohene Konadu Auditorium on September 29, 2025, saw the graduation of students from the Department of Accounting, the Department of Banking and Finance, and the Department of Economics and Actuarial Science.
