The Electoral Commission of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) has announced the reopening of nominations for the position of Secretary for Union Development following the disqualification of all candidates who appeared before the vetting committee.
In the vetting results released on September 17, 2025, all four aspirants for the portfolio — Derrick Biam, David Asiedu Korankye, Adelaide Nkyi Asamoah, and Eugene Akadzro Edem — were disqualified on eligibility grounds. The Commission has therefore declared the position vacant and reopened nominations to give interested students another opportunity to contest.
According to the Electoral Commission, the nomination period will run from Friday, September 19, 2025, to Thursday, October 2, 2025. The Commission emphasised that this move is in line with its commitment to inclusivity, fairness, and transparency in the electoral process.
“The Vetting Committee reiterates its commitment to upholding the highest standards of transparency, integrity, and accountability throughout the process,” the statement read.
The Electoral Commission further assured stakeholders that final vetting results will be released once the Judicial Council provides clarity on outstanding eligibility concerns.
