University of Ghana SRC Vice Presidential hopeful, Michael Yeng, has pledged to establish the “SRC Sports Awards” if elected into office.
Yeng, who currently serves as the President of Evandy Hall, is running alongside presidential candidate Evander Akrasi in the upcoming UGSRC elections.
In an exclusive interview with Univers Sports, Yeng stated that the initiative is aimed at celebrating and rewarding outstanding sporting talents within the university.
According to him, the awards will not only boost morale but also serve as a platform to spotlight student-athletes for national and international opportunities.
“We’ll have the SRC Sports Awards as well, so that we can sort of shed more light on our top sportsmen in the school.
“If you look at the US system, you realise that school sportsmen, sort of get some incentives, so are going to bring those incentives to UG as well.
“This is because we believe that they will motivate them to go harder and represent the school even better on all levels.
“So for our sportsmen and women, we have realised that oftentimes they don’t get enough opportunities to showcase their talents,” he said.
Michael Yeng also pledged to bring in international scouts to identify talented students, potentially opening doors for scholarship opportunities.
“We’re going to open the Sports Talents Discovery program where scouts from all around the world will be invited, to spot these brilliant talents and hopefully, they’re able to benefit from international scholarships,” he added.
The UGSRC elections are scheduled for Monday, August 18, and are expected to be highly competitive.
