Some students at the University of Ghana have shared their excitement over the lifting of the ban on social gatherings, expressing anticipation for upcoming campus entertainment events, including the possible return of dancehall artiste Shatta Wale, whose performance was previously postponed.
The ban, which was imposed due to a resurgence in COVID-19 cases on campus, has been officially lifted in a statement released by the Dean of Student Affairs.
Speaking to Univers Entertainment, students noted that the return of social events will help ease academic pressure and bring back much-needed entertainment to campus life.
“Allowing us to do this social event is very good because of the IA stress. So, having this time to entertain ourselves is okay, and Shatta Wale coming is a big deal,” one student shared.
“I’m excited that the ban has been lifted and we’re looking forward to Shatta performing to release the stress from the IA and the upcoming exams,” another added.
Some students, however, expressed concern about the initial decision to suspend events, especially during peak celebration periods like hall and departmental weeks.
“A lot of people were looking forward to hall weeks and departmental weeks. It was unfortunate that when the big star Shatta Wale was coming, all of a sudden, they said COVID-19. In my opinion, that wasn’t the best way, but it’s management, so we had to comply. I’m very excited that Shatta Wale will be making his way back to campus, if what they said is true. They said it wasn’t cancelled but postponed.”
Students are now looking forward to a return of campus celebrations, with high hopes that the postponed Shatta Wale performance will be rescheduled soon.
