Legon Hall JCR President Joshua Neetege has opened up about the challenges faced by student leaders in organising hall week celebrations amid ongoing COVID-19 safety protocols.
Legon Hall and Volta Hall began their annual hall week festivities over the weekend, strictly adhering to health guidelines outlined by university authorities.
Speaking in an interview on Radio Univers’ Campus Exclusive, Neetege said the restrictions significantly altered their original plans and limited the scale of activities.
“It is still affecting us because we wanted to do certain activities that were actually scrapped because of all these COVID-19 protocols we are supposed to follow,” he said. “This has been worrisome to us, JCR executives, in terms of our planning.”
He also revealed that an earlier proposal for a joint hall week celebration involving all traditional halls had to be abandoned due to the protocols.
“The traditional halls were coming together to bring Blacko. So it was not only Legon Hall, but all the traditional halls planning to have an Artiste’s Night,” he said. “However, due to the COVID-19 protocols, we have all broken out and are doing our individual hall weeks.”
Volta Hall JCR Organising Secretary, Promise Yaa Dake,y also confirmed the difficulties her team has faced while working within health restrictions. She described the process as both tough and instructive.
“It has been challenging because of the ups and downs. It has been tough, but it is a learning experience. Our tutors want us to do it ourselves and not leave it to others because it is grooming us for the future.”
